Instagram is testing a new feature that lets creators lock their Reels, making them viewable only if you enter the right keyword or code. It is more like a digital riddle — only those who crack the clue get to see the content.
As first spotted by TechCrunch, the Instagram Design team recently posted a Reel that was locked behind a code. They also gave a small hint to help followers figure it out. Once the correct word was entered, the Reel revealed an animated “coming soon” banner, possibly teasing the launch of their Threads account.
While Instagram hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet, this feature could become a fun way for creators to share exclusive content. For example, they could ask followers to guess a pet’s name or a favorite movie to unlock a special video turning Reels into a mini game for fans.
This idea builds on an existing feature where users can hide Stories and let followers unlock them by sending a direct message. But this new version seems easier — no need to message anyone, just guess the right word.
There’s no word yet on when or if this feature will roll out more widely. Instagram hasn’t made any public statements about it.
Still, if it does become official, it could add a fun, personal twist to Reels — giving loyal followers a chance to feel even more connected.
