Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, has become the most downloaded free app on the Google Play Store. Musk announced the milestone on X, sharing a screenshot of Grok’s Play Store listing showcasing the number one position in the "Top Free" category, surpassing ChatGPT and TikTok.
Grok app tops the chart on the Play Store
Musk shared the achievement through a post stating, “Cool, @Grok is #1 on Android!” The screenshot appears to be from the US Play Store, and the listing shows the top three apps on the Android app store. Out of which Grok is at the top with a 4.9 overall rating. The second position is currently being held by the TikTok app with a 4.1 rating, and ChatGPT is in third place with a 4.8 rating.
After ChatGPT’s Ghibli-style art feature gained widespread attention, Elon Musk’s Grok introduced a similar capability, allowing users to create Ghibli-like art and AI portraits from photos or text descriptions. Unlike ChatGPT, which limits free-tier users to three image generations per day, Grok offers this feature without requiring a paid membership.
The accessibility of free image generation could be a key factor behind Grok’s rising popularity on the Play Store. Additionally, the new Grok 3 update, which promises improved response speed and enhanced image generation, may also be contributing to its growing user base.
