Rockstar Games on Thursday confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on November 19, 2026, moving the date six months later than its most recent target of May 2026. The studio said the decision was made to ensure the game meets the “level of polish” fans expect from the franchise.

“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” Rockstar said in a statement.

Originally slated for a fall 2025 debut, the sequel to 2013’s Grand Theft Auto V has faced multiple delays, though anticipation has only grown. The 2023 trailer for GTA VI smashed YouTube records, becoming the most viewed non-music video in 24 hours, underscoring the series’ massive global following.

The GTA franchise remains one of the biggest entertainment successes in history. Grand Theft Auto V set a Guinness World Record by earning $1 billion in just three days after release. That milestone cemented Rockstar’s reputation for creating expansive, cinematic open-world experiences that blur the line between storytelling and cultural phenomenon.
