Ever found yourself watching a YouTube Short and wondering, “Where is that place?” or “What brand is that outfit?” Well, Google is now making it easier to get answers right from the video itself.
In a new update, Google is rolling out a beta version of Lens in YouTube Shorts, allowing users to search for anything they see on screen. That means you can pause a Short, tap on an object, landmark, or even clothing, and Google will pull up visual matches and search results without you having to leave the app.
For example, if you're watching a travel vlog and spot a beautiful building, you can simply pause the video, use Lens to tap on the structure, and find out where it is and what it’s known for. Whether it’s a scenic location, a cool gadget, or a trending outfit, Lens can help identify and give you more details instantly.
Here’s how it works:
–Open the YouTube app on your phone and go to Shorts
–Pause the video by tapping on the screen
–Select the Lens icon at the top
–Then, draw, tap, or highlight the item you want to search
Once you do that, you’ll see a layer of search results right on top of the video. You can explore the results, and then jump back into watching the Short whenever you like.
Google says this feature won’t show any ads during the beta phase, and it won’t be available on Shorts that include affiliate shopping links or paid promotions.
The feature is being gradually rolled out to users starting this week. So if you don’t see it just yet, hang tight, it should arrive soon.
With this move, Google is making Shorts not just fun to watch, but also a handy tool for discovery, turning casual scrolling into something a lot more interactive.
