Google has announced a suite of new features for Gemini, its advanced AI model, aimed at boosting collaboration and productivity. The updates, detailed in a recent blog post, focus on enabling users to work more seamlessly with Gemini in various applications.
Canvas: What it does
According to Google, Canvas is a new interactive space within Gemini designed to make creating, refining and sharing your work easy. Users can select ‘Canvas’ in their prompt bar to write and edit documents or code, with changes appearing in real-time. “Canvas is designed for seamless collaboration with Gemini. If you want to collaborate with others on the content you just made, you can export it to Google Docs with a click,” said Google in the blog post.
Users can adjust the tone, length or formatting with quick editing tools. “Whether you're crafting a speech, need help revising an essay, a blog post or a report, Canvas can help you maximize your creative output,” said Google.
Canvas also helps in coding, as per Google. Canvas streamlines the process of transforming your coding ideas into working prototypes for web apps, Python scripts, games, simulations and other interactive apps. “Canvas empowers developers to quickly create initial working versions of their projects and provides a space for students to quickly learn coding concepts,” said Google.
Audio Overview: What it does
Audio Overview transforms documents, slides and even Deep Research reports into engaging, podcast-style audio discussions. “Gemini will create a podcast style discussion between two AI hosts who, with just a click, launch into a lively deep-dive conversation based on your uploaded files,” said Google. It can summarize the material, draw connections between topics, engage in a dynamic back-and-forth and provide unique perspectives.
“Audio Overview enhances learning in a fun and productive way. You can upload class notes, research papers, lengthy email threads or reports generated by Deep Research and receive an Audio Overview to help summarize your files while you’re on the go,” added Google.
