Google is taking Chrome’s autofill powers to the next level. The browser can now automatically fill in government ID details like your passport, driver’s licence, and vehicle registration — a major upgrade from just addresses, passwords, and payment info.

Announced on Monday, the new capability is part of Chrome’s expanded Enhanced Autofill feature. Desktop users can now have their passport number, driver’s licence, and even vehicle details such as their licence plate or VIN automatically entered into web forms that request them.

Google says Chrome can now handle more complex and varied form formats across the web, improving the accuracy of its autofill system. The update is rolling out globally in all languages starting this week, with plans to support even more data types in the coming months.

Security remains a focus. Google emphasises that Chrome only saves this sensitive information with user consent and protects it through encryption. Before filling in any saved ID details, Chrome will also ask for confirmation — adding an extra layer of safety.
