After Elon Musk acquired it two years ago, popular social media platform X has been making significant changes to the platform in the last few months. Since last year, X has also shared advertisement revenue with creators based on how many verified users see ads in replies to their posts. Hence, creators on X earned a portion of the ad revenue generated from ads displayed in the replies to their posts.

However, the social media platform has now significantly changed its monetization system for content creators. The company announced that instead of sharing ad revenue based on verified users viewing ads in replies to posts, creators are instead going to be paid based on ‘engagement with your content from Premium users.’

Under the new policy, creators will be paid based on the level of engagement their content receives from X’s Premium subscribers. Therefore, this new system assures that the more premium users interact with anyone’s content, the more earnings that creator will earn. X has also assured that it would remove users who artificially inflate views on their posts to gain engagement.

With the new monetization system, X Premium users continue to be the only audience that is paid by the platform. However, the number of ads they view no longer has any relevance. To qualify for monetization on X, users must be Verified or subscribed to the Premium plan, have at least 500 followers, and achieve a minimum of 5 million impressions on their posts over the last three months.
