Blackmagic Design has rolled out a major update for DaVinci Resolve Studio, aimed at editors working with immersive video and spatial audio. Version 20.1 brings improved compatibility with Apple’s Vision Pro headset, plus new features that streamline 3D editing and spatial sound design.
The update builds on the URSA Cine Immersive, Blackmagic’s dual-lens camera designed to capture stereoscopic 3D video in Apple’s Immersive Video format. Resolve 20.1 expands editing capabilities for footage shot on the camera and adds more flexibility for immersive content workflows.
DaVinci Resolve 20.1 update: Key features
Native support for Apple Vision Pro: Editors can now monitor immersive video from the timeline directly in Vision Pro.
New masking tools: Allows exclusion of unwanted objects in immersive scenes using advanced masking controls.
Flat projection workflow: Converts immersive video into flat compositions for adding text, graphics, or performing cleanup edits.
Spatial Audio support: Adds native integration with Apple Spatial Audio Format (ASAF), including binaural monitoring with AirPods head tracking.
Stereoscopic recognition: Automatically detects left and right eye files in Apple Immersive Video for 3D workflows.
Export options for Vision Pro: Presets for Apple’s Immersive Video Utility make it easier to deliver final content directly to Vision Pro. New ProRes bundles are also available for Compressor users.
Free update: DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.1 is available as a free upgrade for existing users. Sample immersive clips can be downloaded from Blackmagic’s official site.
The update reinforces Blackmagic’s focus on supporting Apple's growing ecosystem of spatial media tools. With improved handling of Blackmagic RAW Immersive video, native audio format support, and seamless delivery to Apple Vision Pro, Resolve 20.1 aims to simplify what has traditionally been a fragmented workflow.
This update comes as Apple continues to push immersive media across its devices, making spatial video and audio more accessible to both professionals and developers.
