Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said Tata group’s electronics manufacturing project in Guwahati is progressing faster than its facility in Gujarat, as he sought more such investments for the northeastern state.

“Tata has announced two industries together. One is in Gujarat, and one is in Guwahati,” Sarma said at the Assam Electronics Roundtable 2025 in New Delhi on May 26.

“So today, if you visit both the plants, you will see that progress in Assam is much more than what there is in Gujarat. Primarily, we do not have a problem of plenty and when you don't have a problem of plenty, you can talk, you can customise, you can address the requirement,” he added.

In Gujarat, Tata Electronics, in partnership with Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), is constructing India's first semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, with an investment of approximately $11 billion.
