Apple is reportedly working on a second-generation HomePod mini, with the compact smart speaker expected to receive a significant boost in performance thanks to a new processor. According to code references uncovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, the updated model will feature a chip built on the T8310 microarchitecture — the same core technology found in the S9 and S10 chips powering the Apple Watch Series 9 and Series 10, as well as the upcoming S11 chip for the Apple Watch Series 11.

The unreleased HomePod mini, identified internally under the codename B525, appears to be the successor to the current B520 model. While the exact marketing name for the chip remains uncertain, the shared T8310 foundation suggests Apple could brand it as the S9, S10, or S11 depending on the timing of the launch.

The present HomePod mini runs on the older S5 chip, which was originally developed for the Apple Watch. In contrast, the anticipated upgrade will be based on the A16 architecture, bringing a 64-bit dual-core CPU and a four-core Neural Engine. This should deliver a notable leap in speed and efficiency, enabling faster Siri responses, smoother HomeKit control, and better handling of computational audio features.
