Apple and its HomeKit solution for smartphone home devices has not been that popular among users as well as OEMs. To solve this, Apple adopted Matter technology. Recently, the company appears to be focusing on a lot of IoT devices and is rumoured to launch a new smart display. In the recent news, Apple is reportedly working on a smart doorbell that will feature the company’s tried and tested Face ID technology.

Mark Gurman’s report on Smart doorbell
In his recent Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has revealed that Apple is working on a smart doorbell that will come with Face ID support. Gurman has also mentioned that the company could make this official by the end of 2025.

According to the newsletter, Apple’s upcoming smart doorbell will work just like the iPhone’s lock screen by automatically unlocking it when you or another authorised resident looks at the door lock. As per the report, the smart lock will also come equipped with a Secure Enclave chip that Apple includes in its other devices for secure login and storing and processing the Face ID information. The chip also keeps the data separate from other system data to add to the overall data security.

Third-party integration
Not only this, Gurman has also highlighted that Apple will make it compatible with other third-party HomeKit smart locks and the company is also speculated to partner with some smart door makers to offer a complete solution from the beginning.
