Apple recently redesigned its built-in Mail app with the latest iOS 18.2 update that automatically sorts emails based on their categories. Similar to Gmail, this tool places the received emails in one of the four relevant groups. However, the Apple Mail app is still missing some AI capabilities of Gmail including the ability to automatically categorize emails based on priority and email type. Thankfully, this is going to change soon.
Apple’s updated Mail app for Mac and iPad: Key details
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman highlighted that the macOS 15.4 update will bring Apple Intelligence features to the Apple Mail app. In a subsequent post on X (formerly Twitter), he mentioned that these new capabilities will also be coming to iPad, with the iPadOS 18.4 update.
Further, we can expect Smart Replies to be introduced with the update, which can generate quick email replies after analyzing its content and help users respond to emails quickly. We can also expect Priority Messages to be unveiled with this update to show the most urgent emails at the top of the inbox. Further, Gurman expects an updated Siri digital assistant, which will enable users to view or hear more information about the installed apps.
Apple has already introduced the redesigned Mail app for iPhones with the iOS 18.2 update in December 2024. Similar functionalities may also be available on the iPad and Mac in April once their respective updates roll out.
