Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event is set to begin in just a few hours, marking the official debut of the iPhone 17 series. The lineup is expected to include four models — iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and the top-end iPhone 17 Pro Max. Among them, the Pro Max has gained attention for its larger design, upgraded features, and what could be Apple’s biggest smartphone battery to date.
Battery upgrades across the lineup
Ahead of the launch, leaked regulatory filings from China have revealed possible battery sizes for the new models. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to house a 5088mAh battery, compared to the 4685mAh unit on last year’s iPhone 16 Pro Max. This 400mAh increase suggests better endurance, particularly for users who rely heavily on media, gaming, and productivity.
The iPhone 17 Pro may ship with a 4252mAh battery, significantly higher than the 3582mAh capacity of its predecessor. The standard iPhone 17 is expected to carry a 3692mAh battery, while the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air could feature a 3149mAh unit. It is important to note that these figures are based on eSIM-only versions, and models with a physical SIM slot — including those for India — might have slightly smaller capacities.
Display size and design
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is likely to continue offering the largest display in the series. Leaks suggest a 6.9-inch panel with ProMotion support and thinner bezels, ensuring a more immersive viewing experience. The Pro models may also feature a redesigned camera setup with a horizontal camera bar, alongside a lighter aluminium build.
Expected price in India
While Apple has yet to announce official pricing, reports indicate a possible increase compared to last year’s lineup. The iPhone 17 Pro Max could start at a higher price due to storage upgrades and design changes. Industry analysts expect the starting price in India to be above Rs 1,50,000 for the base variant, with costs rising for higher storage options.
