Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Shanghai as part of celebrations for the upcoming launch of the iPhone Air in China, meeting with Pop Mart CEO Wang Ning and Labubu creator Kasing Lung.
On Weibo, Cook shared that Lung demonstrated how he sketches his popular Labubu characters on an iPad Pro using an Apple Pencil. During the visit, Lung presented Cook with a custom Labubu modelled after him. The figure features white fur, glasses, black jeans, a blue shirt, sneakers, and a miniature iPhone 17.
Cook noted that Labubu now “has her own new iPhone 17 Pro in Cosmic Orange,” while Lung also created a drawing of Cook meeting the Labubu figure. Lung shared a selfie with Cook on Instagram and provided a closer look at the unique “Tim Cook Labubu.”
During his stay in China, Cook visited the Apple Pudong retail store, met the team behind Lilith Games’ AFK Journey, and saw Wang Feifei on the set of her new music video, which was filmed in a single take using an iPhone 17 Pro.
Preorders for the iPhone Air in China will begin on October 17, with the official launch scheduled for October 22. The release had been delayed as Apple awaited regulatory approval for the device, which does not include a physical SIM. At 5.6mm thick, the iPhone Air is the thinnest Apple device to date and will be the first eSIM-only iPhone available in China.
