The All England Lawn Tennis Club and IBM are serving up fresh digital innovations for Wimbledon 2025, aiming to enhance how fans interact with the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament. This year’s highlight: ‘Match Chat’, a real-time, AI-powered assistant that can answer fan questions during live singles matches.
Available on the Wimbledon App and wimbledon.com, Match Chat uses IBM’s watsonx platform — combining AI agents and large language models like IBM Granite, trained specifically in the language of tennis and Wimbledon’s editorial tone. Whether fans ask, “Who’s dominating the match?” or “How many break points have been converted?”, the assistant delivers instant analysis and context mid-match.
Also getting an upgrade is the ‘Likelihood to Win’ tool, now more dynamic than ever. It provides real-time win projections based on player stats, momentum shifts, and expert data, powered by IBM’s Red Hat OpenShift for scalable performance across platforms.
These digital tools are designed to immerse fans deeper into the action, offering richer insights as matches unfold. Both features are accessible via IBM Slamtracker, which is integrated into the Wimbledon App and website. Post-match insights for top matches will also be available.
“We want fans—whether on the grounds or around the world—to experience Wimbledon like never before,” said Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing & Commercial Director at the All England Club. “Our partnership with IBM lets us create compelling, AI-driven experiences for hundreds of millions of fans globally.”
Jonathan Adashek, IBM’s SVP of Marketing and Communications, added: “This is about unlocking deeper value from data. Match Chat and Likelihood to Win show how watsonx AI can elevate the sports experience in real time.”
Wimbledon 2025 will run from June 30 to July 13.
