Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new entry-level MacBook powered by the A18 Pro chip, marking the first time the company will offer a MacBook priced below $999. Production of components is expected to start next month, with full-scale manufacturing potentially underway by the end of 2025.

Traditionally, the MacBook Air has been Apple’s most affordable laptop, starting at $999. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that a lower-cost MacBook model will enter production in late 2025 or early 2026. Unlike previous MacBooks that use M-series processors, this model will be equipped with the A18 Pro chip, which currently powers the iPhone 16 Pro line.

The new MacBook may come in a variety of colours, including silver, pink, and yellow. Although Apple has not confirmed pricing, speculation suggests a starting price of $699, with education pricing possibly as low as $599.

The A18 Pro chip is expected to deliver performance suitable for typical everyday tasks handled by MacBook Air users. Its multi-core performance matches the M1 MacBook Air, while its single-core scores fall between Apple’s latest M3 and M4 chips, indicating a capable machine for general use.
