Chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa defeated world number two Fabiano Caruana in classical chess in the ongoing Norway Chess competition on June 2.
This comes days after he defeated world number-one Magnus Carlsen for the first time in classical chess on Wednesday, May 29, at the Norway Chess 2024 tournament.
Meanwhile, the 3-0 loss in round 5 knocked Caruana out of the 2800 club.
Praggnanandhaa is back in world top-10 and climbed to third place in the tournament standings with 8.5 points.
Praggnanandhaa beat World number one Carlsen with White pieces in the 3rd round of Norway Chess 2024. The 18-year-old took advantage away from Carlsen, who resorted to what some experts said what a risky play.
Industrialist Gautam Adani tweeted:
R. Praggnanandhaa became the youngest International Master in the history of the game in 2016 - he was 10 years old then. By the time he was 12 years, he had become a Grandmaster.
