Rashid Khan had a tough day with the ball as very rarely we see the Afghanistan spin wizard go wicketless despite completing his full quota of overs. Friday was one such day as South Africa batters, in particular Ryan Rickelton, had no problem dealing with the spinner in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 encounter at the National Stadium in Karachi. "Ryan Rickleton is a fine player but the manner in which he is handling Rashid Khan is alluring," wrote Ashwin on X. (Follow: AFG vs SA, Champions Trophy LIVE Score)
However, Rashid still managed to create some sort of impact but this time due to his smart thinking, which left the fans amazed on social media. The moment took place in the 36th over, which led to Rickelton's dismissal on 103(106). The batter charged down the track against the spinner but ended up playing the ball straight back at the bowler, who quickly grabbed it and took an aim at the striker's end. Rahmanullah Gurbaz who was standing right behind the stumps completed the rest as the wicket-keeper quickly whipped the bails.
The smart thinking by Rashid caught Rickelton off guard, who attempted a dive to cover his ground. However, TV replays confirmed that the bat had crossed the crease but was still in the air, leading to a superb run-out. Soon after the dismissal, Rashid was also seen patting the wicketkeeper-batter, who scored his maiden ODI hundred.
Meanwhile, Rickelton's innings was a great template of hardwork as most runs came from running between the wickets and featured seven 4s and one six. He led South Africa's charge after they won the toss and opted to bat. He was dismissed for 103(106) but his effort, along with fifties from Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram helped South Africa pile 315/6 in 50 overs.
Rickelton was involved in 129-run stand with Bavuma for the second wicket. Van der Dussen also showed great intent and hit 52(46) before getting out against Noor Ahmad. Markram, on the other hand, returned unbeaten on 52(36).
Meanwhile, seasoned all-rounder Mohammad Nabi made two injections. Azmatullah Omarzai and Fazalhaq Farooqi scalped a wicket each.
