'Pakistan PM’s 25 lakh cheques bounced': 2009 T20 World Cup winner reveals embarrassing incident

Pakistan Prime Minister in 2009 presented PKR 25 lakh cheque to each player of the Pakistan cricket team which won the T20 World Cup that year but the cheques bounced.

Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has made a shocking revelation from 2009 when his team won the 2009 T20 World Cup. Led by Younis Khan, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the final to win the second edition of the T20 World Cup. The ex-cricketer revealed the whole squad received a cheque of Rs 25 lakh each from their them Prime Minister (Yusuf Raza Gilani), but they never got the money because the cheque bounced when they went to cash it in.

"When we returned home after winning the T20 World Cup in 2009, we did not get that much money. Because, we had a tour of Sri Lanka to follow. The then Prime Minister invited us and gave a cheque of Rs 25 lakh to each player. We were happy it was a lot of money back then. However, the check bounced," Ajmal told Ahmed Ali Butt on his YouTube channel.

Ajmal also revealed the only money the players received that time was from the the International Cricket Council.

"I was shocked that even a government cheque could bounce. We were told the PCB chief would handle it, but he refused, saying it was the government's promise. In the end, the only money we got was from the ICC," he added.
