KL Rahul played a crucial role in India's ICC Champions Trophy triumph. He was constantly under the radar with Rishabh Pant ready to take his spot but still produced consistent performances with the bat and behind the wickets. With years of experience, Rahul was tremendous with his decision-making about DRS calls which helped the case of Rohit Sharma. However, out of every role he played for the team, he found keeping the wickets most difficult part of the campaign.
Among the eight teams that participated in the ICC event, India was the only team who had five genuine spinners in their squad - Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.

Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep played a crucial role in India's dominant run in the Champions Trophy. Varun took nine wickets with a strike-rate of 20 even after missing the first two games. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep also picked seven scalps while Jadeja and Axar shared 10 wickets among them. In total, India's spin attack captured 26 wickets in the ICC tournament - by far the highest for any team.
Rahul saw it all from behind the wickets but when asked by Sanjana Ganesan about the "fun", Rahul replied, "Not fun, Sanjana! I have had to squat 200-250 times when these spinners are bowling."

Sanjana, who was employed by the ICC during the marquee event, burst into laughter at the response.
"They are high quality. The pitches obviously assisted them a bit, which made them even more dangerous. That makes it even more challenging for me behind the stumps. The way they have bowled, the way they have used those conditions have been phenomenal," Rahul continued.
