The Netherlands defeated Nepal in an exciting Twenty20 International match that featured not one, but three Super Overs after a late drama in Glasgow. This was the first time three tie-breaks have occurred in a men's professional match, whether it was List A or T20.
With Nepal needing 16 runs in the last over, the Netherlands appeared to be winning after posting 152 for seven. But Nandan Yadav tied the score and forced a Super Over with two boundaries, including one off the final ball.
After Kushal Bhurtel hit two sixes and a four in five deliveries, Nepal set a target of 20 runs. But after Max ODowd hammered a boundary and a maximum in the last two balls, it was chased down.
The Netherlands batted first and scored 17 runs in the second Super Over, but Nepal tied the score this time around when Dipendra Singh Airee hit a six on the final ball to initiate a third Super Over for the first time.
However, Nepal lost two wickets in four balls for no runs in the last tie-break, which did not live up to the drama. The Netherlands secured an incredible victory as Michael Levitt took the field and hit a first-ball six against Sandeep Lamichhane.
For taking two wickets in the third Super Over against Nepal, including Rohit Paudel and Rupesh Singh, offspinner Zach Lion-Cachet was named the Player of the Match.
On Monday, the Dutch had suffered a defeat in their first game of the series against Scotland. They have Tuesday off to recuperate before playing Scotland once more on Wednesday. However, Nepal is immediately back in action at the same venue against the Scots.
In the T20I tri-series, each side will play the other two twice before the winner is determined. With two points and a higher net run rate, Scotland, the home side, is now at the top of the leaderboard.
