The run-out dismissal of Abdul Samad, which left experts unsure if it was just a lucky break or just another example of MS Dhoni's skill, was one of the highlights of his match-winning performance against the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday at the Ekana Stadium. It may even make the highlight reels for the current IPL 2025 season. Dhoni also talked about the dismissal that helped him become the first wicketkeeper to record 200 dismissals in the history of IPL.

Matheesha Pathirana delivered a wide down the leg side against Abdul Samad on the second ball of the penultimate over of Lucknow's innings. Pant called for a quick single right away, but Samad took a little longer to respond. Dhoni, who is regarded as one of the smartest wicket-keepers, collected the ball and tossed it towards the stumps at the non-striker's end that struck the bull's eye, which led to the dismissal of Samad.

A video posted on the Lucknow Super Giants' social media account shows Pant asking Dhoni about the run-out, enquiring about his "mentality" behind the decision. "Wicket dekha, maar diya (I just saw the stumps and went for it). It either hits or misses, that was the mentality," Dhoni responded. As LSG mentor Zaheer Khan was seen imitating Dhoni in the clip, Pant came up with a "smooth" reply: "Lage ja rahi hai na (you rarely miss)."
Pant added: “I was close, I ran fast. I was worried, I'd be run out.”
