Mumbai Indians extended their winning streak to four games in IPL 2025 with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. A clinical bowling performance, led by Trent Boult, was followed by a fluent run-chase anchored by Rohit Sharma, who continued his rich vein of form. The result pushed MI up to third on the points table, while SRH were left searching for answers after another dismal outing.
Boult’s new-ball blitz stuns SRH
Mumbai Indians’ bowlers set the tone early as Trent Boult wreaked havoc with the new ball. He struck key blows in the powerplay, removing SRH’s top order with a masterclass in swing bowling. Boult finished with figures of 4 for 26, while Deepak Chahar added two wickets of his own. With Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya contributing one wicket each, SRH found themselves in deep trouble at 35 for 5 inside nine overs.
Klaasen-Manohar revival comes too late
In a rare moment of resistance, Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar stitched together a 99-run stand for the sixth wicket — Sunrisers’ highest partnership in IPL history. Klaasen’s 71 off 44 balls showcased his ability to counterattack under pressure, while Manohar held one end with a steady 43. Their efforts lifted SRH to 143/8, a total that still looked below par on a good batting surface.
Rohit continues purple patch in chases
Chasing 144, MI lost Ryan Rickelton early, but Rohit Sharma ensured there were no hiccups. Backing up his unbeaten 76 from the previous game, Rohit scored a classy 70 off 46 balls, laced with crisp strokes and clever placement. He had a 64-run partnership with Will Jacks and a 53-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav. During his knock, Rohit also became the latest entrant to the 12,000-run club in T20 cricket.
SKY stays consistent, seals the win
Suryakumar Yadav continued his dream run, finishing unbeaten on 40 off just 19 balls. He has now crossed 25 in all nine innings this season, closing in on Robin Uthappa’s record of ten consecutive 25-plus scores in a single IPL season. His clean hitting ensured MI chased down the target with 26 balls to spare.
With this dominant win, Mumbai Indians not only completed the double over SRH this season but also signalled their resurgence at the business end of the tournament. The team looks balanced, dangerous, and confident—hallmarks of a title contender. For SRH, the light at the end of the tunnel isnt visible and instead the tunnel seems to be too long at the moment. Their aggressive batting approach backfired badly, and unless they find consistency soon, their playoff hopes may quickly fade away.
