The Lucknow Super Giants opted for a distinctive jersey during their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 28th game of IPL 2024. Normally attired in dark blue, the Lucknow team adorned green and maroon colours in their game against KKR in Kolkata as a support to the city and its renowned football club, Mohun Bagan Super Giant. It's noteworthy that the RPSG Group, owned by Sanjiv Goenka and the parent company of LSG, also holds ownership of MBSG in the Indian Super League.
Regarding the match, KKR's skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first. "It feels nostalgic, the crowd's energy is electrifying, and this is what we missed playing away from Kolkata. It's a great feeling to be back. I'm not entirely aware of the conditions; the last game was a great pitch, but we're professionals and need to adapt. We're bowling first, so Rinku Singh makes way for Harshit Rana," Shreyas mentioned at the toss.
On the other hand, LSG's captain KL Rahul stated, "I would have chosen to bowl first, but the pitch looks promising. It was crucial to recuperate with such a short turnover. The key is to ensure everyone is well-rested and recovered. There are a few changes - Devdutt Padikkal and Naveen-ul-Haq are rested, Shamar Joseph and Deepak Hooda return. Mohsin Khan also makes his comeback."
Eden Gardens could be considered LSG's second home or home away from home, given that their owners' office is merely 6 kilometers from the ground. The franchise also owns the local football team Mohun Bagan, and the maroon-green jersey pays tribute to this football team by LSG.
Even though KKR won the match convincingly, the LSG maroon-green jersey also got enough support from the fans in the stadium.
