The win saw Gujarat move second on the points table, level on 14 points with leaders Mumbai Indians, whom they meet next at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6. SRH, on the other hand, continue to remain ninth on the points table, but remain alive in the playoffs race.
The action began with GT opening pair Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill adding 82 runs in the powerplay. Zeeshan Ansari eventually broke the partnership at 87 in 6.5 overs by getting rid of Sudharsan for 48(23). Gill was then joined by Jos Buttler as the belting continued. The GT skipper went to smash a 25-ball half-century as both batters dealt in boundaries. The duo hammered 62 runs in 37 balls before a run-out cost Gill his wicket, who departed after scoring a stylish 38-ball 76.
Buttler then ran the show as Washington Sundar struggled to get going at the other end. Despite that the duo accumulated 57 runs off 34 balls before Pat Cummins got rid of Buttler for 64(37). Sundar was eventually dismissed for 21(16).
