In a big setback for the Delhi Capitals, England batter Harry Brook has pulled out of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2024 citing personal reasons. Harry Brook was signed by the Capitals for Rs 4 crore in the auctions last year.
Harry Brook had earlier withdrawn from the five-match Test series in India as well.
Brook announced his decision in an Instagram post citing the loss of his grandmother last month, whom he called as his ‘rock’.
The England batter has said that he has made a tough choice to pull out of the IPL tournament and that he was quite excited to be picked by the Capitals. However, some personal reasons, which he doesn’t want to disclose, has made him prioritise the well-being of his family.
Brook attributes his attitude towards life and love for the game of cricket to his grandparents. He further expressed his emotions by stating that his grandmother was like a ‘rock’ for him and he opted out of the India tour after learning that she was seriously ill and didn’t had much time left.
Expressing his desire to be with his family in this grieving situation, 25-year-old England batter Brook says that there is nothing more important than his family and he wants to prioritise the mental well-being of himself and his family.
Brook further expressed his gratitude for the support that he got from the England Cricket Board (ECB) and his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals in such a situation.
An IPL debutant of the 2023 season from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Brook was signed by the SRH in Rs 13.25 crore.
After this announcement by Brook, Delhi Capitals have got less than 10 days to prepare before they lock horns with Punjab Kings in their first match on March 23 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
