Being the son of former New Zealand rugby union player and coach John Mitchell, the New Zealand batter understood the dynamics of team sport. Daryl Mitchell became a talking point after his unbeaten 72 in the T20 World Cup semifinal against England in Abu Dhabi three years ago.

Daryl Mitchell was part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two years with Rajasthan Royals, but he only played two matches and scored 33 runs. He found his mojo during the ODI World Cup in India, where he smashed 552 runs in 10 appearances.
