The India-Pakistan clash at the ICC Women's World Cup at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday witnessed a dramatic moment when Diana Baig had Jemimah Rodrigues caught-behind by Sidra Nawaz.
Bowling the 27th over, Rodrigues tried to cut the third ball but got cramped for room. The ball nipping in took an inside-edge and settled in the wicket-keeper's gloves. It was followed by a loud appeal and subsequently the umpire raised the finger.
Pakistan players started celebrating and right when Rodrigues was walking off the buzzer triggered, signaling it was a no-ball. This left the Pakistan players stunned as replays showed that Diana had indeed overstepped.
It was a quick swing of emotions for Diana, who was celebrating the wicket but had to bowl the next ball to Rodrigues, who dutifully smashed the free-hit to the mid-wicket fence for a boundary.
Rodrigues was then batting on 2 and she hung around till the 35th over before getting out for 32(37). The dismissal was after a forced break in the proceedings due to insects.
Rodrigues was also involved in an ugly mix-up with Harleen Deol during her stay in the middle. The incident took place in the 30th over as Rodrigues tried to steal a quick single after pushing the ball towards the fielder at extra cover. Despite crossing halfway down the track, she was sent back by Harleen and it took a dive by Rodrigues to save her wicket.
Meanwhile, a blistering 20-ball 35* powers India to 247/10 in 50 overs. Ghosh walked in at No. 8 and blasted three boundaries and a couple of maximums.
"Lot of moisture on the pitch which gave it a bit of hold," noted Rodrigues in the mid-innings interview.
