The South Africa camp has been hit with two big injury concerns ahead of the second Test against India scheduled to be played at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati from November 22. As reported by News18, Simon Harmer, who played a big role in Proteas' triumph at Eden Gardens, is dealing with a shoulder injury, while seamer Marco Jansen is carrying a niggle.
The duo checked up at the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata, the same centre where Shubman Gill received treatment for the neck spasm that he sustained while batting in the first innings of the opening Test.
The report, however, couldn't confirm the extent of their injuries and whether it may lead to them not playing in the second Test, which is a do-or-die affair for the hosts.
Harmer scalped four wickets each in both innings in the previous encounter and was named Player of the Match for his clinical display. Jansen, on the other hand, managed five wickets in both innings combined.
In case the injuries prevent the duo from taking part in Guwahati, South Africa have the option to bring in left-arm spin all-rounder Senuran Muthuswamy in place of Harmer and Kagiso Rabada can replace Jansen.
Meanwhile, if we switch focus to Indian camp, Gill remains uncertain for the second Test following an injury on his neck. The report mentioned that Gill was suspected to have picked up an innocuous sprain, but the injury turned out to be a more serious one. Although, the India captain has been discharged from the hospital but is yet to join the team.
India will look to settle scores when the teams meet in the north-eastern state of Assam. The match, unlike other Tests in India, will start at 9:00 am and will have Tea interval ahead of Lunch.
