Team India skipper Rohit Sharma went on a rampage against the Aussie bowlers especially against Mitchell Starc as he scored 29 runs in one of his overs. The over included four sixes including one which went 100 meters.
Batting first, Rohit fired on all cylinders and struck as many as eight sixes and seven fours during his sparkling knock. Unperturbed by Virat Kohli's early dismissal, Rohit went after pacer Mitchell Starc and bludgeoned him for 29 runs in his second over, setting the tone for India at the Darren Sammy Stadium.
The first two sixes in the over came via delightful aerial drive over extra cover before he smashed one in the cow corner region. The fourth maximum of the over came via a mishit that went all the way behind the stumps. Rohit did bulk of the damage in his 87-run stand with number three Rishabh Pant (15 off 14), who welcomed leg-spinner Adam Zampa into the attack with a six over long-on.
Another memorable shot of Rohit's innings was the down-on-one-knee six over deep mid-wicket off Pat Cummins in the latter's opening over. Rohit unleashed a six over extra cover when Marcus Stoinis came into the attack in the eighth over.
It was more evident how important was Rohit Sharma's knock because when India's team total was 52 in Rohit Sharma's contribution was 50 runs. Rohit Sharma became the first player to hit 200 sixes in T20 Internationals. Rohit also broke Yuvraj Singh's record of hitting maximum sixes in an innings in a T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma also broke the record of Ex-Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful's for the fastest fifty by a captain in T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma hit seven boundaries and eight sixes in his knock scoring at a strike rate of 224.39
Rohit brought up his half-century off just 19 deliveries, the fastest of the tournament so far, with all but two of India's runs having come off his bat as he reached the milestone. Rohit Sharma looked on course for a record century, but finally fell when Starc was reintroduced to the attack and cleaned up Rohit for 92 from 41 balls.
Mitchell Starc got his revenge back as he dismissed Rohit Sharma but not before Rohit Sharma scored 92 runs in just 41 balls.
