Dewald Brevis spared no Australian bowlers on his way to an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls in the second T20I at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin. The efforts helped the 22-year-old become the youngest South Africa cricketer to score a century in the format. And by the time the innings got over he had also become the batter with highest individual score in T20Is for South Africa.

Brevis plundered the most runs against Glenn Maxwell as he hammered the all-rounder for 30 runs in 8 balls. Josh Hazlewood too failed to control his pace and was slammed for 26 runs in the nine deliveries he bowled to the right-handed batter. Brevis hit a total of 12 fours and 8 sixes during the course of his innings and finished at a strike-rate of 223.21.

His efforts powered South Africa to a massive 218/7 in 20 overs, which drew an interesting reaction from Proteas legend AB de Villiers. The original "Mr. 360 degree" - a moniker associated with De Villiers - lamented the fact that Brevis found no buyers at IPL mega auction held at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in November last year. "There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction! Missed out badly," wrote De Villiers on X.

Brevis, one of the most exciting young cricketers in the world, was eventually roped in by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) midway in the season. He was introduced as an injury replacement for pacer Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis got six opportunities and despite the limited outings the explosive batter made maximum use of it. By the time CSK's campaign got over, Brevis had accumulated 225 runs from six innings, which two half-centuries.
