India's powerful left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma maintained his remarkable streak, becoming the fastest batter to reach 1,000 runs in terms of balls faced in T20 Internationals.
Abhishek broke the previous mark set by Suryakumar Yadav, who needed 573 balls to reach the milestone, with just 528 deliveries. The top five is completed by Phil Salt of England (599 balls), Glenn Maxwell of Australia (604), and Andre Russell and Finn Allen (609 apiece).
During Saturday's fifth Twenty20 International against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane, the 23-year-old's run streak continued as he rushed to the landmark with his signature aggression. India's T20 batting style has been redefined by his bold attitude at the top of the order, which combines powerful strokeplay with consistency.

In terms of innings, Abhishek also became the second-fastest Indian to reach 1,000 T20I runs; he did so in just 28 innings, one less than Virat Kohli, who took 27. He went ahead of players like KL Rahul (29), Suryakumar Yadav (31) and Rohit Sharma (40).

In his 29th innings since making his debut in July 2024, Abhishek, who opened the batting for India, achieved a significant milestone when he reached 11 off 7 balls. Before Abhishek's most recent record-breaking performance made both records obsolete, Tim David briefly held the record for the fastest to 1000 T20I runs for a single nation. David achieved the feat for Australia in 569 balls, four fewer than Suryakumar.

Abhishek is still at the top of the ICC T20I rankings with 925 rating points.
