This once-abundant species is facing a massive population decline that could have far-reaching negative effects if the common toad goes extinct.

Sharp Decline in Common Toads Confirmed

A study was published in Biodiversity and Conservation. The common toad is rapidly declining in the UK and Switzerland. The UK has reported a 41% decrease since 1985, and Switzerland has seen a 33% decrease since 1973. Scientists are concerned that this threatens amphibian populations and also suggests larger environmental issues at work.
