Mesmerizing time-lapse video of the aurora, stars and one meteor was captured from the International Space Station (ISS). This footage was shared by NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick on social media X.
In the footage, just before sunrise the intriguing features of the aurora, satellites, stars, and a meteor are captured in the time-lapse. On social media, Dominick wrote “Night time-lapse just prior to sunrise,” He further added, “If you watch carefully, partway through, you can see a meteor streak towards Earth.”
The interaction of charged particles from the Sun with the Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere results in the formation of the auroras sometimes referred to as the Northern and Southern Lights. These particles cause atmospheric atoms to become excited, illuminating them and producing the stunning hues that are characteristic of auroras.
Dominick was the part of SpaceX Crew-8 mission, he arrived at ISS in March, and he is passionate about space photography since his arrival at the space station he has captured awe-stunning photos of space.
He shared his photos on his social media with his followers who appreciated his captures, his post describes the image well as he mentions the camera through which he captures the photos.
This video is a stunning reminder of the beauty and activity that occurs in interstellar space and on our planet’s upper atmosphere. With a unique perspective and passion for the space photography astronauts like Dominick and the technology aboard the ISS, they share the wonder of these natural spectacles.
