NASA has recently shared a marvellous view of the Moon from space captured by a NASA astronaut named Matthew Dominick, who has been the part of the International Space Station (ISS) for 4 months.
In the captured image a crescent Moon can be seen rising from Earth, where the cloud is surrounding the Earth. Layers of orange and black can also be seen in the image along with the blue band.
This image left many people mesmerised on social media, where this picture has received 5.4 million views on @nasaartemis official social media account.
The image is captured from the orbiting laboratory, Dominick has shared his view about this image and has described its beauty, he said, “A sliver of a moon rises out of noctilucent clouds and appears to look towards the horizon awaiting the imminent sunrise.”
Dominick has been a part of the Crew-8 mission launched on March 3, 2024, along with the cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin and two other NASA astronauts named Michael Barratt and Jeanette Epps.
Through a combination of specialized equipment, training, vantage positions that are not easily found elsewhere, technical expertise, artistic vision, and a unique perspective, astronauts take breathtaking pictures from space.
The ISS orbits Earth approximately every 90 minutes, providing astronauts with frequent opportunities to photograph the planet and the vastness of space from a unique vantage point.
Because of their quick orbit, they can see and record a wide range of events, such as the dazzling colours of dancing auroras in the polar regions and the sweeping city lights that fill up cities at night.
Among Dominick's notable works, there are beautiful images he has captured such as Hurricane Beryl, the Starliner spacecraft in space, a nighttime view of Earth and more.
These photos have educational and scientific value in addition to being visually enchanting. They support scientific research on atmospheric conditions, natural catastrophe monitoring, and environmental change tracking.
