Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 Date & Muhurat

As per the Vedic calendar, the Dwitiya Tithi (second day) of Shukla Paksha in Ashadha month marks the beginning of the festival. In 2025, the auspicious Jagannath Rath Yatra will begin on June 27.

Rath Yatra Festival Significance

This nine-day festival is the only time in the year when the three deities are taken out of the main temple and placed on giant wooden chariots to travel 3 km to the Gundicha Temple, which is considered to be the home of their aunt. The return journey is known as Bahuda Yatra, observed on the ninth day. Devotees believe that pulling the chariots during the Yatra washes away sins and grants blessings. The divine journey also represents the idea of Lord Jagannath’s equal love for all—regardless of caste, creed, or class.
