Who Was Meera Bai?

Meera Bai, born around 1498 in Kudaki, Rajasthan, was a Rajput princess known for her profound love and devotion to Lord Krishna. Married to Bhoj Raj, the ruler of Chittor, Meera took little interest in her royal duties or her husband, believing herself spiritually wedded to Krishna. Her divine connection to Lord Krishna became the defining aspect of her life, and she spent her days composing and singing heartfelt songs of devotion.

Over her lifetime, Meera Bai is said to have composed approximately 1,300 devotional poems dedicated to Lord Krishna. These poems, known for their simplicity and emotional depth, express a deep yearning for union with the divine. Her work remains a pillar of the Vaishnava Bhakti movement, where devotees seek a personal connection with God through love and devotion.

Meera Bai’s life was filled with trials, as she faced opposition from her family and society for her deep devotion and unconventional spiritual path. However, her dedication to Lord Krishna never wavered. According to legend, in 1547, at the age of 49, Meera Bai miraculously merged into the image of Lord Krishna, completing her spiritual journey.
