Mauni Amavasya, observed on January 29, 2025, is one of the most sacred days during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. This auspicious day holds special significance for millions of devotees, as it marks the day for the Amrit Snan or the "nectar bath" in the holy waters of the Triveni Sangam. According to Hindu tradition, the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya is believed to cleanse devotees of their sins, bringing them spiritual purification. It is considered one of the most powerful rituals of the Kumbh Mela, drawing an overwhelming crowd of pilgrims from around the world.

With an estimated 10 crore devotees expected to attend this grand bathing festival, the Prayagraj Mela Authority has implemented comprehensive measures to efficiently manage traffic and crowds at the sector level.

The Uttar Pradesh government, in collaboration with Indian Railways, has arranged for the smooth movement of trains to accommodate the influx of pilgrims. Over 150 special trains will run to nine railway stations in Prayagraj, ensuring that the transportation network can handle the massive crowd while preventing overcrowding at stations.

To handle this influx, color-coded shelters have been set up at stations for unreserved passengers, helping them navigate efficiently to their designated routes. The ticketing process will be streamlined with a total of 560 ticketing points, including automatic vending machines and reservation counters, with 132 counters at Prayagraj Junction alone. These measures will enable the processing of up to 10 lakh tickets daily.
