Significance of Dahi Handi

Dahi Handi is a symbolic representation of Lord Krishna’s playful and mischievous childhood. Fondly remembered as Makhan Chor, young Krishna loved butter, curd, and milk. To protect their pots of curd, the women of Gokul would hang them high from the ceiling. But Krishna, with his group of friends, devised the idea of forming a human pyramid to reach the pots.

This tradition has now transformed into a festive celebration, where teams of Govindas recreate the human pyramid to break the earthen pot filled with curd, milk, and butter, symbolizing Krishna’s love for dairy.
