When Lord Shiva returned and was denied entry by Ganesha, a conflict broke out, leading Shiva to sever Ganesha’s head. Seeing Parvati’s anger, Shiva revived Ganesha by placing an elephant’s head on his body, blessing him as the first deity to be worshipped (Pratham Pujya) and the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta).
