Japan-based architect Shigeru Ban has created a retractable and refillable pen for Acme Studio that doubles up as an architect’s scale ruler. The three-sided Scale pen is made from aluminium, with the measurements laser etched into its surface. Outfitted with German components, the scale is based on a simple twist action mechanism that allows one to extend and retract it, so it can be easily adjusted depending on what one is working on. Apart from functioning as an architect’s scale, it also works as a ballpoint pen.
