5.5 quake jolts Chinese county

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Yutian County in Hotan Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region last night, China Earthquake Networks Centre said today.

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Yutian County in Hotan Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region last night, China Earthquake Networks Centre said today.


The epicentre, with a depth of 6 km, was determined to be at 36.4 degrees north latitude and 82.4 degrees east longitude, Xinhua news agency reported.


No reports of any loss of life or damage received here so far.


Previously, the US Geological Survey measured the quake at 5.1-magnitude.
