India added 25 new billionaires, joining the ranks of the world’s richest people, Forbes’ new report revealed. Among them was Renuka Jagtiani, chairwoman of Landmark Group, with a net worth of $4.8 billion.
Forbes’ New Billionaires 2024 identified 2,781 billionaires worldwide in 2024 with Jagtiani on number 660 in the world. So, who is Renuka Jagtiani?
About Renuka Jagtiani:
Renuka Jagtiani is the chairwoman of Landmark Group, a retailing giant based in Dubai. It was founded by her late husband Micky Jagtiani in 1973, who passed away in May 2023.
Landmark, a multinational conglomerate, was established as a single store in Bahrain and now boasts over 25 proprietary brands in retail, hospitality, food, and leisure sectors. Landmark has 2,200 stores spread across 24 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
Renuka Jagtiani, 70, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mumbai. She also was instrumental in creating the high-street fashion brand Splash in 1993, according to LinkedIn.
In January 2007, she was named Outstanding Asian Business Woman of the Year and was awarded Businesswoman of the Year in January 2012. In 2014, she was awarded the Entrepreneur of the World Year by the World Entrepreneurship Forum. Following that, in January 2015, she was honoured as the Strategic Leader of the Year and in January 2016, she received the Captain of the Industry Award. She was inducted in the Hall of Fame of the World Retail Congress in 2017.
She has three children – Aarti, Nisha and Rahul - who serve as group directors at Landmark.
Meanwhile, the surge in global wealth this year has added 265 new billionaires in the list by Forbes.
