Roads connecting to over 30 villages in Gujarat's Junagadh district were submerged following heavy rains, forcing authorities to close them. Vanthali, in the district, received 361 mm of rain in the 24-hour period that ended Tuesday morning, officials said.
Over ten talukas in the southern and Saurashtra regions recieved more than 200 mm of rain in a 24-hour period, causing water-logging in low-lying areas, they said.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) claimed that it has dispatched a team to Keshod in the Junagadh district to assist those who were left stranded due to broken roads.
"Nearly 30 villages in Junagadh district were cut off as roads connecting them have gone under water following heavy rains," a senior official said.
The officer said that Keshod, Manavadar, and Vanthali are the affected talukas in the district.
The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) provided statistics indicating that during the 24-hour period ending at 6 am, Vanthali taluka in Junagadh received 361 mm of rainfall. It was followed by Keshod taluka, which recorded 248 mm of rain in a 24-hour period; Visavadar taluka (336 mm); Junagadh taluka (297 mm); and Jungadh city (297 mm).
Some locations that saw significant rainfall in the past 24 hours include Surat's Bardoli Taluka (239 mm), Devbhumi Dwarka's Khambhalia Taluka (229 mm), Manavadar, Junagadh (224 mm), Navsari Taluka, Navsari district (214 mm), and Kalyanpur, Devbhumi Dwarka (200 mm).
Ten talukas in the south Gujarat and Saurashtra areas collectively received more than 200 mm of rain in a single day.
Over the past three days, a considerable amount of rain has fallen in some areas of the state.
Given the intense rains and ensuing waterlogging, the NDRF claimed that ten teams have been deployed to various locations in south Gujarat, Kutch, and Saurashtra.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a'red alert' for multiple districts, including Surat and Junagadh, on Monday, indicating exceptionally heavy rains expected until Tuesday morning.
According to the most recent projection, Tuesday and Wednesday may see heavy to extremely heavy rain in several parts of Gujarat.
Tuesday is expected to bring "very heavy rains" to isolated areas of south Gujarat and Saurashtra, while heavy rain is expected to batter numerous sections of north Gujarat, central Gujarat, and the Saurashtra region.
According to an IMD press release, there will be extremely heavy rains on July 3 in Surat, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli. The report further stated that two cyclonic circulations over north and south Gujarat are causing a wet period in Gujarat.
