Monsoon to be normal, not above normal: IMD revises prediction

The country's weather agency has attributed the downward revision to the delay in La Nina phenomenon.

With less than 10 days left for the rainfall season to end, the IMD said the season would end with the country receiving "normal" precipitation and not "above normal" as it had earlier forecast.

Madhavan Nair Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences said the monsoon this year will be below 100 percent of the Long Period Average (LPA).

Anything between 96-104 percent of the LPA is considered as normal rainfall while precipitation in the range of 104-110 percent is termed 'above normal'.
