Cold wave hits Punjab, Haryana; Amritsar touches 1.8 deg

Narnaul in Haryana and Amritsar in Punjab recorded their minimum temperatures at 1.8 degrees Celsius, both four notches below normal limits. Ludhiana (4.5 deg C) and Patiala (5 deg C) also experienced a cold night, the MeT Department said here.

As cold wave conditions continued unabated in Punjab and Haryana, Amritsar and Narnaul in the respective states became the coldest regions on Monday, recording a minimum temperature of 1.8 degrees Celsius. Narnaul in Haryana and Amritsar in Punjab recorded their minimum temperatures at 1.8 degrees Celsius, both four notches below normal limits. Ludhiana (4.5 deg C) and Patiala (5 deg C) also experienced a cold night, the MeT Department said here.

As cold waves swept the region, Chandigarh recorded the season's coldest night so far at 4.8 deg C, two notches below normal. Apart from Narnaul, other places in Haryana which shivered under biting chill included Hisar, which recorded a low of 2.9 deg C, down four notches while Karnal recorded a low of 3.4 deg C, three degrees below normal limit. Ambala also had a cold night at 5.4 deg C, down one notch.

According to the MeT, foggy conditions prevailed at few places in the region on Monday including, Ludhiana and Karnal.
