Can I support independence for Kashmir? Can I call the government unflattering names? Can I oppose capital punishment and refer to it as judicial murder? Would any or all of these, amount to being ‘anti-national’? What does that word even mean? Is it synonymous with sedition? Should the government decide what I should say or eat? What about my privacy? The events of the last few weeks and why even months…have raised many questions about our fundamental rights and whether the police, government and judiciary are protecting them or violating them?
