On Sunday, Arjun Tendulkar made his debut for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). A few days later, he picked up his first IPL wicket by removing Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
However, what was his father's reply when he told him he was determined to take up cricket seriously many years ago? The 49-year-old shared the response to a user question on Twitter on Friday.
Sachin Tendulkar was present at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday when Arjun Tendulkar debuted for the Mumbai Indians. Taking the new ball, Tendulkar gave away five runs in his first over.
Incidentally, 14 years ago when his father bowled for the first time in an IPL match, it was against the Kolkata Knight Riders and he, too, gave away just five runs.
Tendulkar was unable to take a single wicket during the course of his IPL career and when his son claimed his first wicket in the IPL, he tweeted saying, "A superb all-round performance by Mumbai Indians once again. Cameron Green impressed with both bat & ball. Ishan & Tilak’s batting is as good as it gets! The IPL is getting more interesting every day. Great going boys. And finally a Tendulkar has an IPL wicket,".
The Mumbai Indians next play Punjab Kings in the second match of the double header on Saturday.
