The Instagram account of Alakh Pandey has been blocked on charges of impersonation which the co-founder and CEO of PhysicsWallah says are bogus. His appeals to reinstate the account have so far not yielded returns.
On Sunday, Alakh Pandey shared a screenshot of an Instagram notice informing him that his ‘@physicswallah_founder’ account had been “disabled for pretending to be someone else.”
The tuition teacher-turned-entrepreneur refuted the charges of impersonation on Twitter, writing: “My account has not been impersonating any other account. Insta account physicswallah_founder solely belongs to me and there seems to be a mistake in disabling my account.”
Pandey has since appealed to Instagram and its parent company Meta several times to restore access to his account - but to no avail. As of this morning, the Instagram account of the PhysicsWallah founder is still blocked.
Pandey, 31, criticised Meta’s grievance redressal forum in a LinkedIn post this morning, saying the social media giant offered little to content creators.
“Creator economy in India has reached an all-time high to 1300 Cr. with an expectation to grow 2200 Cr. however there is very less being offered to the creators in return, especially at Meta,” he wrote.
The physics teacher who built an edtech unicorn added that he had tried contacting several people in Meta’s global operations team - from grievance officers to relationship managers – but received no satisfactory response.
“In this age of technology a simple request to reinstate my account is taking ages, whereas it takes less than a min to communicate to the world through a reel or a short,” he wrote, adding: “It's my humble request to the team at Meta to connect a responsible person with me who can help us out here, who actually cares for what creators are building for its platform.”
