Harsh Goenka also shared a clip of an 'insider' revealing what makes Reliance Industries chairperson Mukesh Ambani so 'incredibly successful'.

"The one leader whose vision and thinking truly dwarf me is Mukesh Ambani," RPG Group chairperson Harsh Goenka recently shared on X. He also shared a video of a former president of Reliance Industries, Captain Raghu Raman, sharing an insight into what makes Ambani "so incredibly successful".

In the clip from a podcast, Raman said that one of the main reasons why leaders like Ambani have been able to attract and retain talent is because they have been trained in leadership since they were children. Recounting an incident that left Raman in awe of Ambani, he said that around 2017-18, he thought of discussing a proposal involving drones with the Reliance Industries chairman.

"At that time, drones were supposed to be coming into commercial usage. I didn't want to go to him [Ambani] after an order has come and then say that we are working on the plans. So I made the plans of being prepared to deploy drones," Raman told Ganeshprasad Sridharan of The Think School podcast.  "When I went to him, he listened to me for a couple of minutes and then started rummaging through his drawers... he pulled a sheet out and said, 'Let's buy a satellite. There's a $400 million offer from Ukraine for a satellite, let's buy it.'"

Raman said that had this suggestion come from any other leaders, he would have probably taken it with a pinch of salt, but since it came from Ambani, Raman was completely surprised by the grandiosity of his vision.

"Here I was thinking of a drone and he was thinking of satellites," Raman said. "So the difference in altitude will kind of tell you that he is a special person who has cultivated that ability [of leadership]."
